Cultural Immersion

Experience the Heart & Soul of Hawaii

Learn about Hawaiian Culture

One of the most extraordinary and meaningful aspects of Rein Project Hawaii is our authentic Cultural Immersion Program, led by local Kupuna (Hawaiian elders) who share their deep knowledge, traditions, and stories passed down through generations. Twice a week, our teenagers will have the opportunity to step into the rich heritage of Hawaii, not just as spectators but as active participants in its vibrant culture.

Under the guidance of our Hawaiian cultural mentors, participants will:

  • Dance the Hula – Feel the rhythm of Hawaii’s history and storytelling through graceful, traditional movements.
  • String Beautiful Leis – Craft intricate floral garlands, a symbol of Aloha and Hawaiian hospitality.
  • Play the Ukulele – Strum along to island melodies as you learn the instrument that gives Hawaii its signature sound.
  • Husk Coconuts & Taste Fresh Tropical Fruits – Get hands-on experience preparing traditional Hawaiian foods.
  • Engage in Other Authentic Hawaiian Traditions – Participate in chanting, storytelling, and learning about Polynesian navigation, connecting to the spirit of the islands in a way most visitors never get to experience.

Why Hilo? The Heart of Hawaiian Tradition

Unlike Hawaii’s more tourist-heavy areas, Hilo is an authentic Hawaiian community, making it the perfect setting for a deep, meaningful cultural experience. Here, our teens will be surrounded by real island life, gaining a genuine understanding of Hawaiian traditions, values, and customs.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Cultural Experience

Our Cultural Immersion Program offers more than just a glimpse into Hawaiian life—it allows participants to connect with the history, spirit, and traditions of the islands on a personal level. These hands-on experiences will serve as treasured memories and lifelong lessons, leaving each participant with a profound appreciation for the Hawaiian way of life and a deeper respect for cultural exploration.
