Golf & Service @ Project California

21 & 28 Day Golf & Volunteer Program With Participants Living @ UC Santa Barbara

Golf & Service at Project California is a unique opportunity to play several exciting golf courses throughout the Santa Barbara area and to receive hands-on instruction with our golf professional, while also earning community service credit (earn 24 or 32 hours of credit) by volunteering as a mentor at The First Tee program of Santa Barbara. The First Tee strives to teach young people values like integrity, respect, and perseverance through the game of golf.

Golf & Community Service

Golf & Service is based at the Santa Barbara Golf Club, a well-manicured, impeccably maintained 18-hole regulation par-70 golf course. With sweeping views of the Santa Ynez foothills, Channel Islands, and the Pacific Ocean, this challenging course is 6,037 yards from the back tees. With a 1,000 square foot putting area, practice sand traps, and the latest in video technology, the Santa Barbara Golf Club is the perfect location for every golfer to improve his or her game.

Our golf program is directed by Doug Crane, a Class A PGA member and a fully accredited First Tee coach. Doug has run popular golf camps and clinics in Santa Barbara for the past 19 years. He was the golf professional at the Waikoloa Resort in Hawaii for a number of years before moving back to his hometown of Santa Barbara.

Each weekend during Golf & Service is spent discovering exciting destinations throughout sunny southern California. Chill on beautiful Catalina Island and visit Disneyland during our Orange County Weekend, discover Santa Monica and browse Rodeo Drive during our fun Los Angeles Weekend, and check-out Universal Studios and The Improv Comedy Club during our weekend in Hollywood.

**Please note that all Golf & Service participants are required to bring their own golf clubs and proper golf attire is required at local Santa Barbara-area courses.

Group Size:

The Golf & Service program accommodates up to 16 participants and is part of the larger Project California program. Our golfers live with our Project California participants, which fosters expanded social interactions and friendships during meals, evening activities, and weekend excursions.

During the week, the University of California, Santa Barbara is our home away from home. Our dorm features an incredible array of facilities, including an Olympic-size swimming pool, computer room, recreation room with pool tables and ping pong tables, floor lounges with sofas and cable television, linen service, and laundry room.

During the week, the group will eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Portola Dining Commons, the dormitory dining hall. Portola is cafeteria-style, consisting of various stations with plenty of choices at each meal for all types of diets. Enjoy everything from made-to-order omelets to lasagna to delicious desserts. While traveling on weekends, breakfast and dinner are provided at our hotels and in various local restaurants.

Our summer staff members are teachers and graduate students who are committed to our ideals of volunteering and giving back to the community. All staff members attend our professional training workshops where the emphasis is placed on the safety and well-being of our teenagers. Program leaders are trained in Basic First Aid and CPR.

We use professionally driven buses and vans to transfer our participants to their various golf courses, activities, and weekend excursions. There is no additional fee for transporting participants to and from the airport on arrival in California and departure from California.

The Rein Communication Center is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week throughout the program. Teenagers are permitted to bring cell phones and our free wifi is available throughout our dormitory.
