Golf & Service @ Project California

21 & 28 Day Golf & Volunteer Program With Participants Living @ UC Santa Barbara

What is The First Tee?

Volunteer at First Tee

The First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. Through after school and in school programs and during summer recess, the First Tee helps shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect, and perseverance through the game of golf.

Our Golf & Service participants will spend two afternoons per week as volunteer mentors at the First Tee of Santa Barbara, and in the process each person will earn valuable community service credit (24 or 32 hours) for his or her hard work and determination. Doug Crane, our local resident professional, has been leading the First Tee program at Santa Barbara Municipal Golf Course for the past 12 years.

Our participants will help Doug in various ways, from working one-on-one with a child on his or her golf swing to helping a child stay focused while on the putting greens. No matter the task, we will help the young golfers strive towards the Nine Core Values of the First Tee program: honesty, integrity, responsibility, respect, confidence, judgment, perseverance, courtesy, and sportsmanship. Volunteering at the First Tee program not only provides lessons that have a lasting positive influence on the character and lives of our participants and the children they are working with, but also educates and motivates them to become responsible and productive members of their communities.

**Please note that Golf & Service participants will volunteer every Thursday morning at different Santa Barbara non-profits. This allows them to be more fully integrated into the Project California program and offers a better understanding of the service work needed in and around the Santa Barbara community.
