Our 26-day program in Australia and New Zealand
introduces our teenagers to the highlights of these two incredible countries through travel, community service, and cultural immersion. The goal of our Australia and New Zealand Adventure is not only for our participants to see beautiful and diverse parts of the world, but to also learn about themselves through their cultural experiences and volunteer opportunities.
We begin our adventure by traveling to New Zealand and starting with an exhilarating Jet Boat ride on Waitemata Harbour, taking in the beautiful city of Auckland. Next, travel north to the magnificent Bay of Islands and explore the Maori Meeting House and Waitangi Treaty House, the birthplace of modern New Zealand. We will kayak the Waitangi River, plummet down massive sand dunes during our sand boarding lessons near Cape Reinga, and take a relaxing dolphin-sighting cruise in the pristine bay. Head to Lake Taupo for an easy hike around a crater lake and test yourself on our fun high-ropes course. We’ll pass by Huka Falls on our way to the thermal hot-springs of Rotorua and the Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. Take a private tour of Hobbiton, the setting for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. Next, learn about the proud Maori people at our traditional Tamaki cultural show and dinner. No visit to Rotorua is complete without experiencing the thrills of Zorbing, one of New Zealand's most popular activities! Throughout our stay we will feel the warmth of Kiwi (as New Zealanders are called!) hospitality.
Next, we board our flight and head to the Gold Coast of Australia, famous for beautiful beaches and world-class surf. We’ll enjoy an Aussie Outback Dinner and Performance, take in the thrill rides at Movie World Theme Park, and catch the waves during our surf lessons. Next we head to tropical Cairns, gateway to the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. We’ll white-water raft the Barron River, spend two full days snorkeling the magnificent Great Barrier Reef, learn about the local Aboriginal culture, and zip-line over primary rainforest. Learn how to throw a boomerang and swim at Josephine Falls during our stay at a traditional Outback cattle station. Our last stop is Sydney, one of the world’s most beautiful and modern cities. Take in a performance at the Sydney Opera House, explore the Rocks Market, visit famous Manly Beach, and finish your stay in Australia with an incredible night climb atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Throughout our time in New Zealand and Australia we will also have several opportunities to help the local communities, including coastal stabilization projects, helping to feed the hungry, tree planting in environmentally sensitive areas, and data collection at the Great Barrier Reef. Upon completion of the Australia and New Zealand Adventure, each participant will receive a certificate recognizing 20 hours of community service.
